Open preparations for a strike on Syria began a few days before the air raid. At the beginning of the week, the Iron Dome missile defense systems were deployed to the north of Israel - to Haifa and to the border with Lebanon. The US authorities were warned about the upcoming operation ahead of time, and a few hours before the attack, the head of the Israeli Air Force, Major General Amir Eshel, warned the Israelis that they needed to be prepared for anything: “We are doing everything possible to prevent an immediate threat, but still preparing for war."
On the same night, taking advantage of the storm that broke out in the region, Israeli fighter jets crossed the Syrian border three times in the Golan Heights, each time passing at a low level, remaining unnoticed by Syrian air defense radars.

On the evening of January 31, the Syrian General Staff announced that Israeli aircraft bombed a center in Jamrayah, where research was being carried out "to increase the level of resistance and self-defense." As a result of the airstrike, two people were killed, five were injured, and significant material damage was caused to the center.
What exactly the "research center" in Jamrayya was doing is unknown, although it has been an object of observation by Western intelligence services since its inception in 1969. It was believed that weapons were being developed there, including biological and chemical ones, and Soviet and later Russian scientists helped the Syrians in this. According to Israeli media reports, Russian specialists are still working at the plant today. It is not clear whether our fellow citizens suffered from the attack, but perhaps this is what made Moscow declare a gross violation of the UN Charter. „

“However, information immediately appeared in the press that the Israeli military attacked not one, but two whole targets in Syria. Moreover, representatives of the Free Syrian Army (SAS) hastened to take credit for the attack on the research center: they say that this is the work of the rebels, and the Israeli Air Force bombed a convoy with Russian weapons that supplied the Shiite Hezbollah group based in Lebanon from Damascus with Russian Buk air defense systems -1M (according to NATO classification, SA-17).
Will do without resolutions
The Israeli authorities do not comment on the operation: the law on military censorship prohibits government officials from disclosing information related to Israeli military operations. And neither the Syrians nor the Lebanese can yet independently prove the seemingly obvious facts - the pilots worked cleanly. It is unlikely that Israel is seriously afraid of an armed clash: Damascus has previously limited itself to verbal threats in response to Israeli escapades - suffice it to recall the unfinished Syrian nuclear reactor in Deir ez-Zor, which the IDF air force bombed in 2007. And in the current situation, there can be no talk of a war between Israel and Syria at all.
But even despite the veil of secrecy, the Israelis did not want to share glory with the Syrian rebels. It is for this reason that members of the Netanyahu government, without mentioning the operation itself, throughout the past week, have repeatedly reminded of the terrible threat that the Middle East is facing. It is already clear to Israel that the United States will not intervene, there will be no military intervention in Syria, even if the Assad regime uses chemical weapons.
