The feature film “Lust for Life” about the joint creative work of Iggy Pop and David Bowie in the 1970s will be shot in Berlin. This was reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be directed by Gabriel Range (The Death of a President), and the script will be written by Robin French, who worked on the BBC television series Cuckoo. “Lust for Life” will be produced by the British company Altered Image and the company Egoli Tossell, Germany.

Iggy Pop and David Bowie moved to West Berlin in the late 1970s. Thanks to their collaboration, three albums that became rock classics appeared in the German capital: Iggy Pop’s “Idiot” and “Lust For Life”, as well as Bowie’s “Low”.

“Lust for Life is an unusual biography because no one dies at the end of the film,” Egoli Tossell said in a press release. The statement also says that the film will focus on "divided Berlin, the western part of which became a magnet for artists, hedonists and political activists of all stripes in the 1970s."

French drew information for the script from a variety of sources, including the biographies Starman: David Bowie and Open Up and Bleed: Iggy Pop, written by former MOJO music magazine editor Paul Trinca.

Bowie's Berlin period was last mentioned in his song "Where Are We Now?", released in January 2013. In it, the singer recalls the time spent in the German capital, as well as specific places in the city.

The film “Lust For Life” received funds from the German Film Office and the British Creative England fund. The fate of the project will be finally decided in February 2013 at the Berlin Film Festival, where it will be presented to potential investors at the European Film Market.
