The chief editor of OpenSpace recognized the political background in the closure of the resource

The editor-in-chief of the OpenSpace socio-political portal, which ceased on February 8, considers its closure by politically motivated. In an interview with COLTA.RU, Maxim Kovalsky said that the resource was closed not because of the release of any specific materials, but because of the figures who collaborated with the portal.

He admitted that the closure of the resource was a complete surprise for him. He explained that the decision to terminate the site’s work was made by the new owner - Vadim Belyaev.

The information plug reporting the closure of the resource appeared on the OpenSpace website on the evening of February 8. Employees of the publication previously reported that the site is closed for economic reasons.

The updated OpenSpace portal under the leadership of Maxim Kovalsky appeared on the network on July 18, 2012. The old edition, led by Maria Stepanova, was forced to leave the portal under the pressure of Vadim Belyaev. In July 2012, the Stepanova team launched the Colta.ru portal. Among others, under the leadership of Kovalsky, Oleg Kashin and Dmitry Bykov wrote to OpenSpace.

Before arriving in OpenSpace, Maxim Kovalsky for a long time worked as the editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine "Kommersant-Vlast". In December 2011, he was dismissed in connection with the scandal due to the article under the heading of the apple poi. It published a photo of one of the spoiled ballots. On the ballot there was an insult with insults against Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. From the network version of the publication, the image was seized after some time.
