The Higher Attestation Commission recommended depriving of plagiators of scientific degrees

The Expert Council of the Higher Certificate Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science recommended that ten people who forged their dissertations be deprived of scientific degrees, Kommersant reports . In particular, experts of the Higher Attestation Commission are advised to annul the candidate degree of the former director of the specialized educational and scientific center of Moscow State University Andrei Andriyanov.

On Tuesday, Dmitry Medvedev appointed the new head of the highest certification commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of the former Minister of Education Vladimir Filippov. According to Filippov, the members of the Expert Council considered 11 dissertations, which previously the Ministry of Education and Science considered suspicious. They found plagiarism and references to non -existent publications in scientific journals. In addition, some university conclusions attached to dissertations turned out to be fake. Another work will be dismantled at a separate meeting, since opinions on it are still diverge.

Filippov noted that in the near future the VAK will begin to verify other suspicious dissertations, including those identified by bloggers. “A few dozens of cases are already in work. We collect these authenticities of dissertations, including from open sources,” said the deputy head of the Higher Attestation Commission. “In the coming weeks, we have to repeatedly return to the issue of deprivation of scientific degrees.”

On Wednesday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated that the number of "linden" candidates and doctors of science in Russia "goes off for all possible limits." Medvedev called the correct campaign to identify plagiarism in scientific work. Otherwise, according to him, "the development of science will still mean discrediting scientific degrees and titles."

On January 31, the Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science recommended that a number of dissertations defended at the Moscow Pedagogical State University to the scientific degree. At the end of 2012, a number of publications appeared on blogs and the media in which Andriyanov, the leader of the National Democratic Party Vladimir Thor and a number of other persons who received a degree at the MPSU, were convicted of plagiarism. On February 4, Andriyanov quit his post. He left of his own free will until the final resolution of the issue with his dissertation.

In 2006, President Putin was accused of plagiarism. According to the British Sunday Times, large pieces of his candidate dissertation were copied from the work of American economists. In 1997, Putin defended a dissertation on economics at the St. Petersburg Mining Institute. According to the senior researcher of the Bruking Institute of Clifford Gaddy, 16 of the 20 pages of the key part of the Putin work copied word for word or with minimal editing from the article by William King and Devid Cliland, published in 1978. In the early 90s, an American article was translated into a Russian institution related to the KGB.
