On February 13, Vorkuta gathered at the city morgue, not indifferent to the grief of mining families, whose relatives died on February 11 at the Vorkutinskaya mine. The audience was silent, sometimes talking to each other, nearby police officers stood, the Red Banner newspaper reports.
The mother of the gathered citizens was joined by the mother of Shakhtar, who died on February 11, Maria Sokolovskaya: “I have nothing to lose. My son was 28 years old. And I could not protect him ... Our children are dying, this arbitrariness must be stopped! Of course, I won’t put my grandson into the mine. But you, everyone who goes to work every day, is waiting for the return from the change of husband, your father, your father, your father, should you. Stop afraid and declare openly about the violations that are being done in the mines! ”
Shakhters from Vorkutinskaya, present at the rally, voiced production problems. In their opinion, the introduced Australian coal mining system in the mines of Vorkuta is unacceptable - with round -the -clock coal production, they do not have time to ventilate, which leads to an inevitable cluster of gas.
“This is very beautiful - plastic in the bathhouse and so on, but the money should also be invested in professional work. It can be added that the number of Vorkuta employees in coal enterprises has decreased since 2008 at times. In the pursuit of savings and the desire to be in the top ten, the company's owners forget about human lives. Safety measures should be real,” Shakhtar said.
The rally was attended by Deputy Head of the city administration Yaroslav Melnikov.
On the morning of February 11, a methane explosion at a depth of 800 meters occurred at the Vorkutinskaya mine. 18 miners were killed , several more people with injuries were taken to the hospital.
