Workers at a Cypriot supermarket chain destroyed more than 16 tons of beef burgers.

Employees of a Cypriot supermarket chain destroyed 16.5 tons of beef burgers in January of this year for fear that horse meat got into their minced meat, Christos Christou, an inspector of the local health service, Christos Christou, said in an interview with Cypriot radio on Thursday.

It is not yet known in which supermarket chain the products were destroyed. This decision was made after horse meat was found in burgers sold in the largest supermarket chains in the UK and Ireland.
