The Ministry of Emergency Situations will fire the employee who reported an SMS alert to residents of the Chelyabinsk region about a meteor shower over the region, official representative of the Russian Ministry Irina Rossius told reporters. She said that there was no SMS notification about the meteorite fall; informing the population began after the incident.

This morning, the press service of the Ural Regional Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations issued a message that “the population was notified of the incident via SMS and the OKSION system.” Meanwhile, eyewitnesses reported that they did not receive any SMS with information about the meteor shower.

This was also evidenced by a poll conducted on the website of our online newspaper.
