The head of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, Sergei Stepashin, connected today's meteor shower with checking the implementation of the regional budget in the Chelyabinsk region, a Znak.com correspondent reports. “Including now we are conducting a serious comprehensive check, apparently, that’s why the meteor shower began - this is in the Chelyabinsk region. By the way, there are a lot of questions for the current administration, I would like to make a reservation right away,” Stepashin said, speaking at a meeting of the State Duma.

The audit of the Accounts Chamber in the region was announced in mid-January by the head of the control agency, Sergei Stepashin, who said that many questions had accumulated for Governor Mikhail Yurevich. Later, the media reported that the auditors, in particular, would be interested in the issue of financing the resettlement of the village of Rosa, whose residential buildings are sliding into the largest coal mine in Europe, Korkinsky.

The day before, one of the representatives of the Accounts Chamber noted that the audit of the region was planned. And the head of the Southern Urals, Mikhail Yurevich, said that the audit “does not raise any concerns.”

The last time such an event was held in the Southern Urals was in 1997.

It should be noted that the audit of the Accounts Chamber is taking place against the backdrop of a conflict between regional authorities and security forces.

As reported, a bright flash and explosion in the sky today at about 9 a.m. was observed by residents of the Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Kurgan regions, Kazakhstan and Bashkiria. The Southern Urals suffered the most as a result of the astronomical phenomenon: glass flew out in many houses and institutions in the region; at the Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant, glass and doors in the plant management and personnel department were knocked out; at the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, a warehouse wall was destroyed by a blast wave.
