Sochi before the Olympics: a city of contrasts

The construction of Olympic facilities in Sochi is scheduled to be completed by August 2013.

Now, according to the Department of Coordination of Preparations for the Olympic Games, construction is late. In particular, builders are behind schedule at 49 sites, including sports grounds, hotels and other infrastructure facilities. In order to speed up construction, it was decided to create four headquarters where performers and contractors will report.

On February 6, President Vladimir Putin inspected the Olympic facilities in Sochi and learned that the completion of the ski jump complex had been delayed, as well as that the project had become somewhat more expensive. The company led by Akhmed Bilalov was responsible for the construction. Putin demanded that action be taken. On Tuesday, February 19, Bilalov resigned.
