The Academy of Russian Television Award " TEFI " ceases to exist. On Thursday, the President of the Television Academy, Mikhail Shvydkoy, said that he considers it inappropriate to hold the national television competition “TEFI” in conditions where a significant number of manufacturers are withdrawing their works. A few days earlier, the All-Russian State Television and Radio Company officially announced its withdrawal from the television academy.

VGTRK explained its decision primarily by the fact that the Academy had ceased to be an institution uniting the television community, but had turned into a platform for television discord. At the same time, VGTRK emphasized the need for a professional television competition that would unite all television companies and major producers.

Shortly after this, Channel One announced that it no longer considered it possible to nominate its works for the annual national competition due to the lack of main competitors. “We note with regret that the 19-year history of the TEFI Award in the form in which it existed has ended,” Channel One said in a statement . “We sincerely regret what happened, but to participate in something that no longer exists, We don’t think it’s possible either.” At the same time, First hopes that the potential of the TEFI-Region award will remain, since “this is the only structure that has consistently worked systematically with regional television workers for many years.”

The TEFI Award, awarded for the highest achievements in the field of television arts, was established in 1994. The prize is a figurine of Orpheus by sculptor Ernst Neizvestny. In 2008, the All-Russian State Television and Radio Company (channels "Russia", "Culture", "Sport", "Vesti") refused to participate in the competition, and in 2007 - the television companies NTV and TNT.
