The Investigative Committee will check whether the Socialist-Revolutionary Ponomarev slandered Zhirinovsky

The head of the ICR, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered to check the appeal of the leader of the LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky regarding slander against him by the Socialist Revolutionary deputy Ilya Ponomarev, Interfax reported with reference to the official representative of the department Vladimir Markin.

“In connection with the appeal of State Duma deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky to the Investigative Committee with a request to check for signs of slander the statements of deputy Ilya Ponomarev, the chairman of the Investigative Committee ordered to organize a pre-investigation check on this fact,” Markin told Interfax.

On February 20, Vladimir Zhirinovsky asked the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation to initiate a criminal case against Ilya Ponomarev, who had previously suggested that the prosecutor’s office check the legality of the defense of the doctoral dissertation of the leader of the Liberal Democrats. “I ask that a criminal case be opened and that deputy Ponomarev be put in prison before the new year,” Zhirinovsky said, addressing Bastrykin from the State Duma rostrum, who participated in the “government hour” in the lower house of parliament.
