Inauguration in Gangnam style

60-year-old Park Geun-hye became the first woman to become president of South Korea. On February 25, she took the oath and officially took office.

The ceremony in Seoul was watched by several tens of thousands of people.

In her 15-minute inaugural speech, she quite expectedly touched upon the issue of relations with her northern neighbor. Park Geun-hye called on North Korea to abandon its nuclear ambitions and follow the path of peaceful development. “North Korea's nuclear test is a threat to the Korean people, and there is no doubt that North Korea itself will suffer the most,” the president said .

Park Geun-hye is the daughter of the late military leader Park Chung-hee, who led South Korea from 1961 to 1979. In December 2012, Park ran for the ruling Saenuri Party and received more than 51 percent of the vote.

A military band performed during the ceremony. True, the attention of most spectators was focused on another performer. The most popular South Korean performer PSY was invited to the inauguration, who, with his video on Youtube, introduced the fashion for the so-called gaetgnam (dance style). The clip collected more than 1.3 billion views on the Internet, and PSY’s dancing style was parodied even by the Americans who invented Mitt Romney Style.
