The Ministry of Defense explained how exactly students would be sent to serve in the army

The Ministry of Defense expressed their thoughts on the idea of ​​undergoing military service directly during their studies proposed by the heads of a number of universities. The military department believes that the student must choose when he is to serve, and to develop a particular mechanism they call for a pilot experiment with the use of educational institutions and military units, Interfax reports.

“If a young man requests and says that I want to interrupt my studies and serve three months (three times three months), then we must think about how to do this,” said the head of the main organizational and mobilization department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Colonel General Vasily Smirnov at a round table in the State Duma.

“The initiative, in my opinion, is interesting,” he remarked, but the choice, “during the period of study at the university or upon completion, should be provided to students themselves, the representative of the Ministry of Defense emphasized. The ministry, for its part, offers several mechanisms for students in the army, said Smirnov.

“You might think that a student who has expressed a desire to serve according to a new scheme passes it, for example, in a specific military specialty in a particular military unit,” he voiced one of the options.

For example, medical services students can be sent to serve as paramedics in military units, he said. Another option is a territorial principle - when there are military units, and several universities are assigned to them, he voiced possible schemes.

The Ministry of Defense does not insist on any of them, said the representative of the leadership of the General Staff. As for the idea of ​​university rector who proposed a mechanism for the service of students without interruption from training, it has a rational grain, Smirnov believes.

Before making any decision, “let's try to conduct an experiment - take several universities and several military units, and then we will gather and discuss, went or never went,” the general suggested.

Earlier, a group of university rectors proposed the Ministry of Defense to send students of military departments to service in the army during the summer holidays. The idea is that for students of universities studying at military departments, to introduce military service in the army for a period of nine months directly in units of three months a year. Another three months, which are lacking before the current service life of the now time, is proposed to count on the account of training these students at the military department.

At the same time, such soldiers will serve near the house in the units where the equipment is operated in their specialty. For example, future designers of caterpillar machines will serve in tank parts, and future aircraft engineers in aviation. And so that the students do not remain without a vacation at all, the duration of the bachelor's training can be increased from the current four to four and a half years.
