How they flooded the country with blood

This is one of the worst documents of the Stalin era: on July 30, 1937, with the approval of Stalin and his Politburo, the head of the NKVD Yezhov signed an order in which limits were established for each republic and each region of the USSR: to kill and Rabsil for the Gulag. Exactly the same as setting limits on coal or nails. Only these were people: the “first category” meant execution, the “second category” - prison and camp terms. These figures were formed as follows: at first the NKVD of the USSR requested data on the number of enemies of the people, under the definition of which the dispossessed peasants - “fists”, members of all parties, except for the Bolshevik party, the old “specialists” and others who could potentially pose a threat to Stalin and his environment. The regional branches of the NKVD proposed their figures, in Moscow they were rounded and approved by order. Then Bacchanalia began: every secretary of the regional committee tried to prove that he loves his homeland and Stalin more than others. And there were notes to the center (see document on the right): “I ask you to increase the limit in the first category”, that is, to shoot a thousand or two more. And the wise comrade. Stalin wrote a resolution - “For increasing the limit” and a generous hand to the requested 8 thousand. He added another thousand. Nine thousand are still living, breathing people. There was little blood all the time: the ghouls were required more and more.
