The Hermitage Capital investment fund says its purchase of Gazprom shares was legal.
“All transactions involving the acquisition of Gazprom shares were carried out in strict accordance with current legislation. The procedure itself was assessed by the Securities Commission, which confirmed its compliance with the law. Accusations that this somehow harmed the company are simply absurd.” , says the Hermitage Capital press service in a statement released on Tuesday in Moscow.
The foundation linked the charges brought against the head of the organization, William Browder, with the adoption of the so-called “Magnitsky Act” in the United States.
Today it became known that the head of the Hermitage Capital fund, William Browder, has been prosecuted in a criminal case for the theft of Gazprom shares worth more than 131 million rubles and will be charged in the near future. His actions caused damage to Russia amounting to about 3 billion rubles, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
