The government of the Samara region plans to begin construction of a number of large sports facilities in Samara this year, the press service of the regional department reported on Wednesday.
Thus, plans for the current year include the design and start of construction of a universal sports complex with a multifunctional arena, a training ice complex and a martial arts palace, an ice arena on the site of the old CSK VVS sports palace.
Several sports and recreation complexes will be opened in cities and districts of the region, and work will begin on the reconstruction of the Voskhod stadium.
A football stadium will also be designed for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and construction work could begin as early as next year.
“When we talk about sports infrastructure, we must understand that sports are not only gold medals, the prestige of the country and region, a healthy lifestyle. It is also a catalyst for the development of various spheres of life, in particular, the construction, road industries, hotels, tourism business, including in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup,” Governor Nikolai Merkushkin is quoted as saying in the message.
