1918 Moscow became the capital

On April 12, 1918, the Council of People's Commissars declared Moscow the capital of Soviet Russia. On March 11-12, government offices were secretly evacuated here from Petrograd. On March 16, the decision of the Council of People's Commissars was approved by the Extraordinary IV All-Russian Congress of Soviets, which decided: “In the conditions of the crisis that the Russian revolution is experiencing at the moment, the position of Petrograd as the capital has changed dramatically. In view of this, the congress decides that, pending a change in the indicated conditions, the capital of the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic is temporarily transferred from Petrograd to Moscow. But the temporary transfer of the capital turned out to be permanent.
