In the Soviet Union, another underground nuclear explosion was produced
up to 10 kilotons. The explosion was produced for folk economic purposes, for deep seismozondo of the territory of the USSR and the search for large mineral deposits.

Mid -aged people and those who are older, they probably still remember such notes in central newspapers and short messages on the All -Union radio. Then it was not accepted to be surprised at this and even more so to ask any questions: after all, everything was done either in the interests of the national economy, or to increase the defense capacity and curbing of imperialists. So, it was necessary, and at the household level the nuclear theme in the Soviet Union was not discussed at all. Yes, and what was to talk about, if official reports of nuclear explosions sounded almost more often than about visits in the USSR of delegations from the countries of the socialist camp: from the moment of the invention of the atomic bomb, until the mid-80s in the territory of the Soviet Union, 124 nuclear explosions were produced in the territory of the Soviet Union.
On July 31, 1982, an emergency occurred during the underground nuclear explosion "Rif-3" (Irkutsk region, Osinsky district)-a powerful expiration of radioactive gases. After 15 years, even Uranus-235 was discovered in the annual rings of trees in the area of the explosion [2].

Under the romantic names “Kimberlit”, “meteorite”, “rift”, “horizon”, “globe”, “meridian”, etc. were hidden by a series of underground nuclear explosions produced in order to study the geological structure of the territory of the USSR and the search for minerals (Fig. 1). I remember how, with each message about the underground nuclear explosion, I tried to imagine this event: if the explosion is produced underground, then, the soil from the surface under the influence of the shock wave should take off into the air? And with it the radioactive substance? If not, then the soil should simply fall into the underground cavity formed during the explosion, which will again lead to radiation. Are our scientists and the military so stupid that they deliberately infect huge territories? In general, no matter how I tried to mentally simulate this situation, it still did not work out any intelligible and plausible answer.
The problem was that at the philistine level, the nuclear explosion was associated mainly with the “mushroom” and the shock wave. In fact, everything is much simpler: the well is drilling (less often - a horizontal or inclined adit is produced), several hundred meters in depth, into which the nuclear charge is laid. Then this case is tightly sealed, and the charge is driven. Babah! Tens of millions of degrees and monstrous pressure lead to the fact that in a matter of fractions of a second, a cavity (explosive chamber) forms underground, the walls of which are instantly melted and sealing inside the chamber all explosion products. The shock wave spreads underground to many hundreds and thousands of kilometers, reflecting differently from various breeds and materials. Using special equipment, these signals are fixed, and on the basis of the data obtained, scientists learn about the deep structure of vast territories.
Two such explosions with the beautiful names “Meteorite-4” and “Rift-3”, as it turned out, thundered in the time in the Irkutsk region. The 7.6-kiloton charge (half of the “Hiroshimsky”) of the Meteorite series was activated on September 10, 1977, 120 km northeast of Ust-Kuta. It is believed that the explosion had no side effects, but the inhabitants of Verkhnemarkovo and a number of other settlements say that after it, oil began to penetrate the sources of drinking water. Nevertheless, it was the reason to argue that it was the “meteorite-4” that no one is taking this reason, but the emergency situation on Rift-3 is a well-known fact ...

Behind 168 km of the Aleksandrovsky tract, 19 km bumpy gravel and 13 km of forest primer. On the left, outside the wall of the shrub growing along the banks of the river, the village of Boroha was barely visible. The place forgotten by all the gods in the Osinsky district: several dozen yards, there are no mobile communications, television only through satellite plates. Bright spring day, but not a soul on the streets. And here is a fork: a rolled forest road abruptly goes to the right, and directly, to the foot of a rather high wooded hill, there is a narrow and practically non -accustomed road. Even under a thick layer of snow, it is clear that this road is not simple - a high embankment above the clearing, with a concrete pipe carefully laid in the place of drain (in the taiga!). GPS shows 10 meters to the target (Fig. 2). Incredible. Literally until the last minute, I was sure that I would have to wade through the object of this kind through Boille Taiga and kilometers of barbed wire. And here please - in the public domain, right near the road, above the same well there is a large concrete cube with the remains of formwork. A rusty column with an equally rusty round sign at the top was equipped in the cube, on which the inscription made using welding is hardly read: “Forbidden zone. In a radius of 250 m, earthworks are prohibited. Contact: Irkutsk, tel. X-xx-xx ". That is how, in a five-digit format, characteristic of the regional center of the early 80s (Fig. 3).
Somewhere to the side, subjectly roaring diesel tanks crawling through the traids of timber trucks. Heavenly snow under the bright spring sun blinds to pain in the eyes. A lone horse walks in the middle of the meadow, hooks grass from under half-meter snowdrifts. All his relatives graze further, in a small clearing up the slope of the hill, and for some reason he is here. Real idyll. If you do not know that in less than a kilometer under his and our feet a huge melted void.

The event that went down in history under the name "Rift-3" happened on July 31, 1982. Several months before that along the road along the boiled day and at night, military equipment scurriedly, some kind of sheathed goods were transported. Local mushroom pickers and berries now and then stumbled in the forest on a hedge of barbed wire, and those who pass near the military town of cattle were even forced to receive special passes.
All this time, the military drilled 7 km from the village of a well with a depth of 860 m. On July 30, all the inhabitants of the Boar were warned that in the morning they leave the houses and gather in an open area, away from buildings and electric wires. They said that an explosion will be made for exploration purposes. True, they did not specify that this explosion will be nuclear. And when the entire population of Bo-Rahala gathered on a volleyball court in the center of the village, something muttered in the mountains near the mountains. The earth was pumped, the water in the foam instantly foamed, and the Irkutsk seismic station recorded an earthquake with magnitude 3. Returning, many Borokhals found that the stoves cracked in their homes. However, all expenses for the repair of the injured property quickly and without unnecessary delay compensated for them. A little later, the most daring villagers who visited the scene of the explosion said that the land in the clearing was as if plowed with a huge plow, and the forest around has yellowed (Fig. 4).

Alas, as it often happens with us, it is not possible to find accurate information about all the details of the explosion. So, the inhabitants of Borokhal say that the military immediately left, leaving even personal belongings. The military, on the contrary, argue that the event was in the standard order and the Rift-3 object left only a month later, having bought out in the feces, as well as collecting mushrooms and berries in local forests.
However, be that as it may, but there is no smoke without fire. Today, all researchers are unanimous in the opinion that the place for the explosion was extremely unsuccessful: for some reason the well for him was drilled in soft carbonate rocks, which were also very flooded and prone to Karst. And with such a structure, 100%sealing an explosive chamber is not guaranteed, and radioactive products are possible through a crack system. Which, apparently, happened. In any case, repeated studies of springs located near Rift-3 showed the content of Strontia-90 and Cesia-137 in the water, which indicates only one thing: the explosive chamber of the Rift-3 is not aomatic, and the decay products fall into groundwater [1]. But how great is the “hole” - the question is open.
