An employee of a scientific institute in Kharkov caused an explosion and died during a scientific experiment

An explosion occurred in Ukraine, in the Kharkov sixteen-story building of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering Problems named after. Podgorny. One person died, Interfax reports.

During the experiment last Wednesday at about 19:00, a cylinder of an electrolysis unit exploded in the laboratory on the fifth floor without subsequent combustion, the press service of the State Emergency Service reports.

“As a result of the explosion, one person was killed and another was injured; he was hospitalized in a city hospital in moderate condition. There was no destruction of the laboratory,” the message says. An investigation is underway.

Ukrainian Institute of Mechanical Engineering Problems named after. A.N. Podgorny National Academy of Sciences is a center for scientific research in the field of energy and mechanical engineering. The institute includes the NSC KIPT and 8 leading universities in Kharkov.
