New President of China

Xi Jinping has been elected as the new president of China. Officially, all delegates of the National People's Congress, the Chinese parliament, voted for him. According to tradition, he also became the chairman of the Central Military Council of the People's Republic of China, the country's highest military body.

He was elected Secretary General of the Communist Party of China in November 2012, replacing Hu Jintao in this post. Xi Jinping is considered one of the so-called “fifth generation” of leaders who will be in power in the next ten years.

Now journalists and diplomats are wondering what course the new president will take. Xi was considered the most compromise candidate. His father was a popular Chinese politician, and Xi himself has good relations with the military. The new president is expected to implement a number of reforms, in particular, solving the problem of strong social stratification in the country. Xi himself talked a lot about the “Chinese dream” and reforming China, and also advocated economic reforms, in particular, reducing state control over the economy.
