Mark Zuckerberg is working on the introduction of hashtags in the Facebook functionality, which, as you know, are a distinctive feature of the social network-competing-Twitter. WSJ , citing a familiar source, reports that it is not clear how far the work of Facebook has advanced with hashtags, but it is unlikely that the function will be launched very soon.
With the help of hashtags, Facebook plans to allow users to celebrate, group and find messages on one topic. This, as the social network hopes, will increase the time spent online, and, as a result, will provide more advertising views.
The fact that Zuckerberg took up the hashtags indicates an increase in competition between Facebook and Twitter. Once, WSJ notes, social networks were responsible for different spheres of people's lives: Facebook served for more “home” communication-with friends and family, while Twitter was a means of communication with the rest of the world. Now, companies have encountered mobile Internet and online advertising field, and everyone wants more a piece.
This is not the first time Facebook has been adopting a competitor: he has already managed to copy the function of subscribing to other users from Twitter and introduced a sign @, which allows to note acquaintances, celebrities or brands of companies.
