The Kirovles case, in which oppositionist Alexei Navalny is accused, has been transferred to the Kirov court. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported this on Wednesday, March 20.

Navalny is accused of organizing a particularly large embezzlement of Kirovles property. In addition to him, is also the director of the Vyatka Forestry Company, Petr Ofitserov, accused in the case. He is charged with aiding and abetting a crime. Both defendants in the case face up to ten years in prison.

Navalny himself said on Twitter that his case was transferred to the prosecutor’s office only on March 19. According to the oppositionist, it turns out that the prosecutor who approved the indictment managed to read 30 volumes of the criminal case in one day. “So, the trial is in April,” Navalny noted.

The investigation believes that Navalny, together with Ofitserov and the general director of Kirovles, Vyacheslav Opalev, stole more than ten thousand cubic meters of wood belonging to the enterprise. Investigators estimated the damage caused to Kirovles at 16 million rubles.

The investigation into the Kirovles case was stopped several times due to the lack of evidence of a crime. In the summer of 2012, it was resumed after sharp criticism from the head of the RF Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, against the employees of the regional department of the agency, who closed the case of the oppositionist.

In December 2012, it became known about another criminal case filed against Navalny. The oppositionist's brother is accused as the second defendant. According to investigators, the defendants persuaded the Yves Rocher company to use the services of Navalny’s company to transport mail and inflated the cost of the work performed by almost 25 million rubles. Navalny himself stated that investigators included the company’s legitimate revenue in the stolen funds.
