Leavened patriotism

The recently actively discussed topic of resettlement of the descendants of Circassian compatriots has already been studied in sufficient detail by specialists, scientists and the public, and it would seem that little is possible to add to the arguments of the parties.

The historical context of the discussion is generally inappropriate, and this is clear to everyone.

There are several weighty collections of documents on this topic, containing extensive information about the eviction of Circassians to the Ottoman Empire, hundreds of scientific works by pre-revolutionary, Soviet and foreign authors.

Disputes regarding the “voluntary” nature of resettlement are also inappropriate.

The conclusion from the well-known letter from the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation on this matter is that “the descendants of people from the Adyghe peoples of the Northern and Western Caucasus who did not accept Russian citizenship and made a voluntary choice to leave the region after the end of hostilities during the Caucasian War (1817-1864)” brings back memories of the “dashing 90s”.

If, say, someone comes to your home and offers: “I like your house, I like the beautiful landscapes and fertile valleys in these places, so I suggest you give it up to me and move to another place. And if I don’t agree, go to sea altogether.” We'll drown you."

In light of the discussed topic of the return of compatriots, the assumptions of some Circassian leaders that the federal authorities allegedly fear that a large influx of Circassians could negatively affect the holding of the Sochi Olympics also seem unfounded.

Putin will restore order and security during the Olympics. Rest assured. If he succeeded in rebellious Chechnya, then there can be no doubt at all.

In short, the fact that the Circassians were not voluntarily evicted has long been well known and generally accepted.

It is also clear that they first of all have the right to apply for Russian citizenship in an accelerated (simplified) manner,

This wonderful discussion about nothing hides for me as a person the presence of another discussion - about the attitude of the so-called national leaders to this problem and their position. If such, in the sense of a position, exists, because it fluctuates depending on the situation.

In principle, all the active fuss around the mentioned issues began after, on the instructions of Vladimir Putin, voiced by him in his message to the Federal Assembly, the development of a procedure for the accelerated acquisition of Russian citizenship by our compatriots began.

A remarkable legislative initiative has emerged for the accelerated acquisition of Russian citizenship by compatriots, which provided for a number of amendments to the law on citizenship, which, if adopted, would allow all compatriots who wish to obtain Russian citizenship, even if they: have not lived (as required by the current law) in Russia is five years old; do not have a residence permit; cannot confirm a legal source of income; do not speak Russian.

The initiators of this initiative were three senators - Vladimir Dzhabarov, Ilyas Umakhanov and Vyacheslav Fetisov.

Why weren’t they supported by Shkhagoshev, Kazharov and other champions of traditional Circassian values?

Kazharov, by the way, failed to correctly even issue entry visas for the first six Circassian refugees, who, after sitting at the airport for several hours, were forced to go back.

Yes, the initiative of the three senators did not pass, and the fact that the head of state in a subsequent decree specified in sufficient detail who and how Russian citizenship could be granted, indicates that state policy will favor the Russian-speaking population in this matter.

And Putin can be understood: despite all the politically correct talk about the equality of all, he protects the interests of Russian refugees.

Who, in this case, will defend the interests of other peoples, in particular, the long-suffering Circassians?

Where are our leaders who knock on their chests and love to talk about patriotism, the revival of khabze, namys, adygagye, etc.?

The patriotism of the leader of Kabardino-Balkaria, Arsen Kanokov, is so far limited only to the fact that he appears in his office once a year in a Circassian coat.

The voice of the head of Kabardino-Balkaria is in no way heard on this issue at the federal level. This, by the way, would be beneficial for raising his personal authority in the republic, if such still exists.

If Kanokov had done at least a small part of the work that Aslan Dzharimov was able to do for the Kosovo Circassians, and perhaps then he could regain his respect.

The government of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic has the same attitude towards the problem.

This year’s first meeting of the KBR Government Commission on the Affairs of Compatriots and Repatriates took place only on March 18 and was held in the best traditions of party activists of the era of stagnation.

In terms of interaction with compatriots coming to Kabardino-Balkaria from Syria, the ministry, together with the Office of the Federal Migration Service for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, the International Circassian Association and the public organization "Paryt", carries out monitoring, which includes monitoring the status and passage of documents of repatriates, compliance with deadlines their stay on the territory of Russia in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation."

There is an apt expression in the Russian language, “Leave patriotism,” which is usually used to designate a social phenomenon that is the opposite of true patriotism. And it perfectly describes the behavior of the so-called leaders.
