The verdict has been pronounced

The leader of the Yekaterinburg branch of Yabloko, deputy of the local city council Maxim Petlin was sentenced by the Sverdlovsk Regional Court to three years in prison. The court considered that he, as the investigation alleged, extorted a bribe from a commercial organization, which, as he wrote in various appeals to inspection authorities, was illegally building a shopping center in the city. Petlin allegedly demanded three million rubles from a company representative, threatening to otherwise continue his actions. In addition to three years in prison, Petlin was sentenced to a fine - judge Vyacheslav Malashkovets ordered him to pay one hundred thousand rubles. Petlin’s accomplice Andrei Panteleev received a year and a half in prison.

Petlin claimed that the money was transferred to his assistant under the guise of documents. Petlin is included in the list of those unjustly convicted compiled by representatives of the protest community - the so-called “Bolotnaya list”. The opposition believes that the court previously considered Petlin’s participation in sanctioned civil rallies, as well as the victim’s unsubstantiated statement about organizing an armed attack against him, allegedly ordered by Petlin, as grounds for detention. The persecution of Petlin was carried out, according to the opposition, with the help of falsifications in connection with his legitimate social activities.
