In North Ossetia they are protesting against the exclusion of wrestling from the Olympic program.

The collection of electronic signatures has been organized on the website "15th Region" , and earlier representatives of the administration of Vladikavkaz and employees of the Ministry of Youth Sports came to the main square of Vladikavkaz to collect signatures for an appeal about the impossibility of excluding wrestling from the list of Olympic sports. RSO-A Sports Minister Rustem Kelekhsaev said that before September, when the IOC makes a final decision on the fate of wrestling, his department will hold a series of events during which it is planned to collect several thousand signatures in support of classical and freestyle wrestling.

For those who are suddenly not in the know: by decision of the Olympic Committee, wrestling was not included in the list of 25 “main” sports of the Olympic program and will now compete for a place at the Olympics with seven more sports. The approved 25 events included: rowing, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, volleyball, handball, canoeing, judo, equestrianism, athletics, table tennis, swimming, modern pentathlon, artistic gymnastics, archery, shooting pistol, tennis, triathlon, taekwondo, weightlifting, fencing, football, hockey, yachtsport.

The Olympic fate of wrestling will be finally decided at the IOC session in Buenos Aires in September 2013.
