The Prosecutor General’s Office initiated massive inspections of Russian NGOs
The New Times publishes a document on the basis of which employees of the prosecutor's office of the Central District of St. Petersburg came to the Bellona environmental human rights center. This organization is one of the dozens of NGOs, which in recent weeks in different regions of the country have visited prosecutors, tax authorities and firefighters. Human rights activists believe that the purpose of these mass inspections may be to collect information about the activities of strong independent non -profit organizations. After analyzing the information, law enforcement officers will decide which of the organizations can be recognized as political for use within the so -called law on foreign agents. Earlier, Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov said that this law is not repressive and does not imply tough checks and sanctions by the Ministry of Justice.
