Environmentalists: snowfall in Moscow cleared the air

Heavy snowfall with wind helped effectively dissipate emissions in the atmosphere, said Alexey Popikov, chief specialist of the State Budgetary Institution Mosekomonitoring.

“Moscow has recorded a reduced level of air pollution and the minimum concentrations of pollutants over the past few weeks. This is facilitated by the weather that has established itself in Moscow,” Interfax quotes Popikov.

During the snowfall, which began in Moscow on January 24, about a third of the monthly precipitation fell. According to the Hydrometeorological Bureau, on Monday the snowfall will weaken, the air temperature will be minus five to seven degrees, the atmospheric pressure will rise to 745 mm Hg and there will be a northerly wind. The weather will not change significantly on Tuesday night.
