Medvedev did not write his dissertation so as not to make it “very funny”

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev believes that officials do not have to be scientists to climb the career ladder.

“In our country, unfortunately, defending a dissertation has turned into an element of a public career, which is not the case in almost any other country in the world,” Medvedev said at a meeting with graduate students of Russian universities. “For some reason, it has become good form in our country that anyone more or less serious the boss necessarily wrote: “Doctor of some sciences.” When I see this, I, of course, have very big doubts.”

The Russian Prime Minister admitted that he himself did not write a dissertation precisely for these reasons. “At one time I wanted to write a doctorate. But I decided that there was no need to do this, because it would be very funny,” Medvedev added.

In February, Medvedev instructed the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economic Development to prepare a system for checking scientific works by March 31 of this year. Recently, United Russia deputies Vladimir Burmatov, Rishat Abubakirov and Nikolai Bulaev, LDPR parliamentarian Igor Lebedev , the son of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, and Olga Batalina , the author of the law banning the adoption of Russian children by Americans, were convicted of plagiarism.
