Confirmed loyalty

The editor-in-chief of Moskovsky Komsomolets Pavel Gusev, who was attacked by Duma deputies who were offended by an article about political prostitution, was re-elected chairman of the Moscow Union of Journalists. Previously, the offended deputies stated that Gusev should not hold either this post or the post of head of the commission in support of the media in the Public Chamber if his newspaper publishes such libels that insult women (the main characters of Georgy Yans’ article “Political prostitution has changed gender” are deputies Irina Yarovaya, Ekaterina Lakhova and Olga Batalina), despite the fact that the Duma has no legal ways to remove him from these posts. Gusev thus secured the actual support of at least one of his institutions. Earlier, he said that the Public Chamber also supports him.

Gusev has headed the Moscow Union of Journalists since 1991. He was re-elected unanimously.
