Moscow policeman refused a bribe of 45 million rubles
A police officer in Moscow refused to accept a bribe of 45 million rubles, Interfax reports with reference to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
“The capital’s traffic police department, together with the Economic Security Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow, prevented the illegal legalization of cargo vehicles imported into the territory of the Russian Federation in violation of customs legislation,” the agency was told.
The story happened a few months ago: a 30-year-old resident of the Far Eastern Federal District offered money to register and issue vehicle passports for almost three hundred imported trucks.
“The total amount of illegal monetary reward promised to the policeman for legalizing the entire batch of trucks was 45 million rubles. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate employee immediately reported this offer to his superiors, and the leadership of the Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to detain the bribe-giver red-handed,” said the Main Directorate of the VMD .
The suspect was detained when he tried to give the first part of the bribe - 100 thousand rubles.
A criminal case was initiated under Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Giving a bribe”). The investigation is ongoing.
