Rally in support of political prisoners

Today in Moscow, in Novopushkinsky Square, a rally was held in support of political prisoners. Among the speakers was the poetess Natalya Gorbanevskaya, a participant in the demonstration against the introduction of Soviet troops into Czechoslovakia. She said that in the 90s she thought that the human rights movement in Russia would no longer be needed. But she was wrong. The slogan “For our freedom and yours,” with which they took to Red Square, is relevant again.

The ongoing fabrication of criminal cases for political reasons must somehow be stopped. It is unreasonable to hope that this process will stop on its own. So far, the absurdity of the accusations is only growing.

At the rally there were posters calling for a boycott of the Olympics in Sochi. This is a smart idea. The Bolotnaya case trials may take place immediately before the Olympics, and this gloomy background, given the rapidly deteriorating relations of Russia with other countries, may be the last straw for the decision to boycott.
