Mikhail Beketov died

In the 119th Hospital, Khimki died by the former editor-in-chief of the Khimkinskaya Pravda newspaper Eco-defender Mikhail Beketov. This was reported by RAPSI with reference to lawyer Stalin Gurevich.

Beketov was 55 years old. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, worked in central editions, was a sob in Afghanistan and Chechnya. In 2007, he founded and headed the independent newspaper Khimkinskaya Pravda. The publication gained fame by journalistic investigations. It was it that attracted public attention to the transfer of a monument to the heroes-heroes on the Leningrad highway. One of the main topics of the newspaper was the scheduled cutting down of the Khimkinsky forest for the construction of a high -speed highway Moscow - Petersburg. The journalist actually headed the movement in defense of the forest.

On November 13, 2008, Beketov was brutally beaten near his house in the private sector of Khimki. After that, he became a disabled person of the 1st group. Doctors amputated the journalist three fingers on his left hand and right leg. In addition, he lost his speech and failed to take possession of it again even after treatment in Israel.

Customers and executors of the attack were not found, although in January 2012 Vladimir Putin promised to talk to the journalist with the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin about accelerating the investigation of the crime, and after that the case was transferred to the Main Investigative Department of the Department.

Meanwhile, the journalist himself, even before the last attack, accused of "political terror" and involvement in the threats of the then mayor of Himmok Vladimir Strelchenko. The official in response filed a lawsuit to the journalist about slander. Already after the attack, Beketov regularly attended a hearing in the magistrate court, where he was brought to the ambulance. As a result, the Khimkinsky City Court found Beketov guilty and sentenced 5 thousand rubles to a fine, but freed him from paying the fine for the expiration of the statute of limitations.

In November 2011, Putin awarded Beketov with a government prize. “In my opinion, this is a game of badminton with special cynicism,” the leader of the movement in defense of the Khimkinsky forest, Yevgeny Chirikov, commented on this step. Chirikova recalled that the last article by Beketov, published before beating, was called the "Khimki forest sentenced" and revealed corruption planes related to the construction of the Moscow -Petersburg highway.
