The US authorities will publish the “Magnitsky list” on the evening of April 12. The Associated Press reports this, citing its anonymous sources.

According to the agency, the document will be published around 14:00 US East Coast time or around 22:00 Moscow time.

Previously, President Barack Obama transferred the authority to formulate the “Magnitsky list” and the adoption of sanctions against its defendants to the US Treasury and State Department.

Let us recall that the “Magnitsky Act”, adopted by the US Senate at the end of 2012, provides for visa sanctions against Russians who, according to congressmen, are involved in the death in a Russian pre-trial detention center of Hermitage Capital fund auditor Sergei Magnitsky.

Those on the “Magnitsky list” will be prohibited from entering the States, and we are also talking about freezing the deposits of the “offenders” in American banks.

Initially, US authorities sought to impose sanctions against 280 Russian officials whom Washington considers involved in human rights violations. However, the State Department then decided to reduce the list to 15 names.

However, only the open part of the register may be “sharply reduced”. The fact is that American laws allow the White House to classify some names for reasons of national security.

Russia has already prepared for the publication of the “Magnitsky list”: it will publish a reciprocal blacklist of American officials guilty of human rights violations as soon as the US authorities present a similar document.

According to the latest data, the Russian register of “guilty” Americans will include 104 people. Initially there were 71 people in it, later Moscow added another 33 people.
