US President Barack Obama's message to Vladimir Putin is constructive and contains a number of new proposals for cooperation between the US and Russia, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Monday.

“Assistant to the US President for National Security Thomas Donilon brought a message from Barack Obama; it is in a very constructive tone and contains a number of proposals to deepen bilateral dialogue and cooperation,” RIA Novosti quotes Ushakov .

According to Ushakov, Obama's message to Putin touched upon issues of military-technical cooperation, including the deployment of missile defense and nuclear issues.

“There are also considerations in the trade and economic sphere. Moreover, these are quite specific proposals. They are developing the idea that Putin expressed at a meeting with Obama in Los Cabos, when he emphasized that, first of all, we need to create a safety net that will help us in difficult moments, when the political situation creates some difficulties,” he said.

Ushakov also noted that on a number of points, Obama’s ideas have already been voiced previously, and in some areas they contain new elements, “which our country will carefully study” and to which “it will respond accordingly.”

He also said that despite the exchange of “sanctions lists” that took place the other day, the nature of Putin’s conversation with Donilon was very positive, “as well as the nature of the signals that the Obama administration is now sending us.” According to him, Moscow is ready to pick up these signals and deepen relations without any restrictions.

“As for our side, as the president emphasized, we, of course, will pick up these positive signals. Moreover, we have always been ready to develop relationships and deepen them without any restrictions. All restrictions are made only on that side; there are no restrictions on our side,” Ushakov said.
