The district court in Samara on Monday sentenced the former head of the drug trafficking department of the criminal investigation department of police department No. 4, Pavel Palunin, for bribery.
Elena Shkaeva, press secretary of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for the Samara Region, told the Interfax agency that P. Palunin was sentenced to a 10.5 million ruble fine under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Receipt by an official through an intermediary of a bribe in the form of money in a significant amount for illegal inaction in favor of briber, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy."
“Extortion of a bribe by ex-police officers led to a major shootout, as a result of which an operative was injured. However, today the court sentenced only the ex-policeman for extortion. The case is about the use of violence against another police officer, as well as complicity in abuse of power, is being considered in court,” E. Shkaeva clarified.
According to investigators, at the end of March 2012, operatives prepared a special operation to detain P. Palunin, sending a pseudo-drug dealer to him.
“P. Palunin came to the area of Krutiye Klyuchi Street in the Kirovsky district of Samara, where, under the guise of a test purchase, he purchased drugs from a drug dealer, and then began to demand 150 thousand rubles from him for failure to prosecute,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
After an employee of the police’s own security, acting as the brother of a “drug dealer,” delivered a package with dummy money to the place indicated to him, P. Palunin and his accomplices were detained.
Earlier it was reported that during the arrest, one of the suspects opened fire with a traumatic weapon and inflicted at least 10 wounds on the operative. The security officer was hospitalized; during the operation, doctors removed 9 bullets from his body.
