It was previously reported that on the night of July 14, 2012, V. Pankratov refused to pay for fish in a convenience store. A man standing nearby asked to pay for the goods. In response, the accused hit the man with such force that he fell.
V. Pankratov left the store, but after some time he returned and began beating the victim who was lying on the floor. The man died from his injuries, and V. Pankratov hid after the crime for several days until he was detained.

Initially, the accused was charged with the article “causing grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim,” but during the investigation the article was reclassified as “causing death by negligence.”
After the initial examination, it turned out that death did not occur as a result of bodily injuries inflicted by the accused, but as a result of the victim hitting his head on the floor. Later, the court granted the request of the prosecutor of the Industrial District to order a re-examination of the causes of death of the victim.
The period of detention of V. Pankratov was extended until April 2013. Previously, V. Pankratov had already been convicted and sentenced to a suspended sentence. According to local media, he used to practice boxing.
