Using game mechanics, you can collect people's opinions necessary for research purposes. So she made the BMW Guggenheim Lab laboratory, creating the Public/Private application about public and private places in the city.
Public/Private is a game that helps to explore the topic of public and private in urban space.
In the game, users choose the places that they consider private, thereby creating a visual schedule showing their choice.
The schedule of each user is then combined with the graphs of all other users, as a result of which the visualization of data in real time is obtained, which illustrates how our perception of privacy changes at the local and global level. The more players play Public/Private, the higher the level of complexity presented as a result of visualization.
The process of filling out the application, resembling the game (due to the use of gaming design), takes only 60 seconds-to complete it, you need to go through three steps:
After passing the game, you will be informed of your results, and you can compare them with others.
The game was created in support of two current research projects of the BMW Guggenheim Lab laboratory, encouraging innovative ideas in urban design and looking for new ways to comprehend city life. Being simultaneously a brain center and a place for meeting all interested in urban topics, the BMW Guggenheim Lab moves around different cities around the world. The laboratory unites the international and interdisciplinary team of talented urbanists, architects, artists, designers, scientists and specialists in many other areas. The purpose of the laboratory is to embody new ideas and the creation of a new image of city life.
The laboratory opened in New York, where it took place from August to September 2011. From June to July 2012, she took place in Berlin, and recently closed in Mumbai, where she took place from December to January 2013.
Public/Private Game was created during the last laboratory in Mumbai in collaboration with Partners for Urban Knowledge, Action Research (Pukar) and Design Cell in Kamla Raheanidhi Institute for Architecture And Environmental Studies (Krvia) .
Design and development of Public/Private Collective Assembly and Tom Van de Velde .
