The police have opened a criminal case against four poachers who killed deer in the Trans-Baikal Territory, reports the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs .
The suspects were detained in the Tungiro-Olekminsky district. Police officers and state hunting service workers noticed how GAZ-66, UAZ-2206 cars and a Buran snowmobile were driving along the frozen bed of the taiga river. 28 deer carcasses weighing about 2 tons were found in the cars.
It turned out that the drivers were not hunters because they did not have a license. The police seized cars, a hunting rifle, and deer carcasses. According to preliminary data, the damage amounts to more than 2 million rubles. A criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal hunting).
Local hunters now do not hunt in the forest because the deer fall into the hardened crust and cannot move. At this time of year, locals believe, hunting is simply mean to the unfortunate deer.
