Until now, not every scientist outraged by the actions of the authorities has the courage to defend their beliefs in a real case, especially when plagiarists occupy high places and hold the levers of the apparatus of violence in their hands.
Unfortunately, the respected Professor Gelfand also lacks consistency in his reasoning. The problem is not in the personality of Mr. Minister, but in the fact that the scientific community is supposed to wait for a “sign” (in the author’s words) from the authorities (the Prime Minister? the President? his administration? the Ozero dacha cooperative? the ruling party, in whose governing bodies include the Minister of Education and Science?)
In Russian science, recovery will only begin when the professional community learns, through its solidarity actions, to force parliament and the president to agree on the candidacy of a minister with the opinion of the community. Of course, first the government in Russia will have to change.
