The Prosecutor's Office of the Perm Territory has asked the youth branch of Memorial in Perm to report on the receipt of foreign funds and their expenditure, the head of the organization, Robert Latypov, told the Interfax agency.
“Today we received a paper from the prosecutor’s office demanding that we provide reports on foreign funding. In addition, they demand that we provide reports on the expenditure of funds. This is all a continuation of the audit, which began back in February,” Latypov said.
He clarified that he considers the activities of the supervisory agency unlawful, since the organization did not commit any offenses to become the object of inspection.
Earlier it was reported that the Perm prosecutor's office also checked the cooperation of the city mayor Igor Sapko with the foreign organization Alliance Frances-Perm, whose representatives are involved in popularizing the culture and language of France.
A representative of the department told the agency that all organizations that may be sponsored from abroad will be subject to prosecutorial inspection.
On November 21, 2012, a law officially came into force in Russia requiring NPOs that receive funding from abroad and conduct political activities in Russia to register as “foreign agents.” At the end of March this year, mass inspections of NPOs by the prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Tax Service began throughout Russia.
