For the ocean, on Mars

The Russian team (see the TRV-Hunch No. 117 [1]) at the end of last week arrived in the United States and the beginning of a two-week stay at the Marsian deserted research station (Mars Desert Research Station) in the desert of Utah. The station was created by an American public organization - Marsian Society (Mars Society) and was opened in 2002 to simulate the Red Planet.

For more than 10 years of MDRS, for the first time in this project, a completely Russian team participates in this project. Unfortunately, there were no overlays: not to the planned departure from Russia, not to all of the six members of the team gave a visa, so the team is still working on Mars in the abbreviated composition: Marianna Ivanova (team doctor and biologist) and Alexander Ilyin (team journalist) should, if everything goes well, join the colleagues “on Mars” in the middle of this week.

Team Russia (serial number 129) entered the watch from April 20 (to May 4). Life on MDRS means not only a two -week stay in a limited space (the Hab residential module outside is slightly different from a huge barrel), but also an imitation of the activities of future Marsonauts on the planet (of course, all the ways out - only in spacesuits). The plans of the Russian team include medical, astronomical and geological studies, as well as testing the prototype of the planetal engine - “Selelenopros” participating in the Google Lunar X Prize [2] competition.

In addition, the team, who has arrived on MDRS, should constantly talk about its stay of the general public: in the blog of Martian society, its own magazines, social networks, and the media. One of these sites will be a three-hobby. The next issue will be published by the report of Alexander Khokhlov, deputy team commander. Alexander will also conduct a personal blog on the website of the TRV-hunger.
