The Moscow City Court recognized the extension of the arrest of Ilya Gushchin, a defendant in the Bolotnaya case, as legal, according to the RosUznik Facebook page.
Gushchin spoke in court via conference call from the pre-trial detention center.
The court of the previous instance (Moscow's Basmanny Court) did not properly consider the circumstances of the case and did not give them a proper assessment, as a result of which the fairness of the court's decision is questionable, said Gushchin's lawyer Maxim Rachkovsky. The defense asked to mitigate the sentence, offering cash bail as a guarantee.
Nevertheless, the Moscow City Court agreed with the decision of the Basmanny Court, which on April 1 extended Gushchin’s arrest until August 6 .
Earlier on Wednesday, the Moscow City Court recognized the legal extension of the arrest of another person involved in the Bolotnaya case, Leonid Razvozzhaev. On March 29, the Basmanny court left him under arrest also until August 6 .
