A decree of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, published on Thursday, determined the date for the Russian holiday “Karavon” in the republic in 2013.
“Caravon” will take place on May 26 in the village of Nikolskoye, Laishevsky district of Tatarstan.
The Russian holiday "Caravon" has more than 300-year-old historical roots and is dedicated to the patronal holiday of the village of Nikolskoye - the day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Every year the festival attracts several thousand guests from Tatarstan, the Volga and Urals regions, and already has the status of a Volga festival.
The holiday program includes theatrical performances, performances by ethnographic and vocal groups, festive celebrations, games, demonstrations of folk crafts and Russian cuisine.
The main component of the holiday is the traditional round dance "Caravon" ("round dance" in the local dialect), when on a huge green meadow all participants and guests organize several large circles "nested" into each other and, connecting with their little fingers, walk in a special "caravon" step, with This round dance revolves around the sun.
"Karavon", like the Tatar folk holiday "Sabantuy", is a holiday of republican significance, the dates of which are set by decrees of the head of the region.
As reported, this year “Sabantuy” will be held in villages and regional centers of Tatarstan on June 8-9, in Naberezhnye Chelny and Nizhnekamsk - on June 15, in Kazan for the first time it will be held not in June, as usual, but a month later - on July 13.
This decision was made in connection with the World Summer Universiade being held in Kazan on July 6-17, so that participants and guests from all over the world could get acquainted with the national holiday and take part in it.
