Just a couple of days ago, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu said that in Belarus Russia will build its own air base. Lukashenko almost immediately denied his words: they say, this is not about creating an air base, but only about the supply of Russian aircraft to the armed forces of Belarus. But Kommersant writes that the parties have already reached a fundamental agreement, and the Belarusian president is simply trying to reassure NATO with his peculiar rhetoric.
In Russia, they hope that air base with fighter aircraft will appear on Belarusian territory in 2015. We are talking about creating an entire aviation regiment. The first on -duty link of fighters will appear here at all by the end of this year. The air regiment will be deployed, most likely, near the Baranavichy.
To reassure the West, Lukashenko declares: “As for the aviation base - maybe it sounded like a“ base ”. No. We are talking about the supply of [aircraft] to our armed forces, ”the Belarusian leader said on Friday. -We buy Russian Su-27, MiG-29 aircraft or more modern to ensure the inviolability of the borders of our state. As a commander in chief today, two dozen modern aircraft are missing today. ”
Lukashenko also expressed satisfaction by the fact that Moscow and Minsk have finally reached consent on the supply of four S-300 systems to Belarus.
