Moldovans trust Putin 100 times more than their president

Residents of Moldova trust Russian President Vladimir Putin more than 100 times more than their president Nicolae Timofti.

According to a survey conducted by the sociological center Magenta Consulting, Russian President Vladimir Putin became the most popular politician among Moldovan residents - 76% of respondents trust him, Moldavskie Vedomosti reports.

In second place in terms of Moldovans’ level of trust is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, 49% of respondents voted for her. The top three is closed by US President Barack Obama - he is supported by 47% of Moldovans.

Among Moldovan politicians, the most popular was the former president of the country, chairman of the opposition Party of Communists, Vladimir Voronin - 18.5% of the votes polled. Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat is trusted by 9.4% of Moldovans, and Democratic leader Marian Lupu by 6.4%.

But the current President Nicolae Timofti, who has held this post for only a year, is trusted by only 0.6% of Moldovans.
