DDOS -Atak was subjected to sites of Novaya Gazeta, Moscow Komsomolets, Echo of Moscow, the Rain TV channel, Forbes.ru and a number of St. Petersburg publications - Fontanka.ru, Zaks.ru, Lenizdat.ru. Some sites were inaccessible for several hours, the rain site as of 14:30 did not restore the work.

In March, the Hamsters already brought down the website of Novaya Gazeta. The site of the movement says that its goal is the struggle "for the purity of information and words", against "discrediting the country, slander and denigration."

News sites have been repeatedly subjected to DDOS attacks. The leaders of the Echo of Moscow, Novaya Gazeta and other media outlets applied to law enforcement agencies, but customers and executors of attacks were not installed.

According to Kaspersky Laboratory, an attack on the Novaya Gazeta website in late March - early April became the largest Runet in the history. The volume of the load on the newspaper channel in peak periods reached 60 gigabits per second. This is a thousand times more than the average indicators of the "new". The power of the largest attack in the history of the attack, when the hackers attacked the SPAMHAUS server, was only five times more - 300 gigabit per second.
