Gates's net worth as of May 17, 2013 was $72.7 billion, about $10 billion more than in 2012.
Until now, the first line of the ranking was the Mexican media tycoon Carlos Slim, he was the richest person in the world in 2010-2012. Slim, according to Bloomberg estimates, had $72.1 billion as of May 17.
Gates remained the world's richest man from 1995 to 2008, until he was supplanted by American financier Warren Buffett. In 2009, Gates again took first place among the rich, and then lost again.
Most of Bill Gates' fortune is managed by his holding company, Cascade Investments.
A quarter of Geist’s fortune is invested in Microsoft, most of it in the Cascade Investments holding. Gates and his wife Melinda run the charity.
