And here is the city of Likino-Dulevo, 80 km from Moscow. There is great joy in the city - the construction of a state-of-the-art overpass across the main city street, with one lane in each direction, has recently been completed.
They say that it was impossible to make a regular pedestrian crossing with a traffic light across this road, since this is A-108, an important road, and a traffic light would reduce its capacity. The theory is excellent, if you do not take into account a number of facts:
— there is a controlled railway crossing through it from the BMK, along which trains often run and it is often closed. It is this that is the bottleneck, and it is its capacity that determines the capacity of the entire road
— simultaneously with the construction of this miracle of Russian urbanism, pedestrian traffic lights were built in two other places, since apparently there was not enough money for three overpasses. It is clear that if there is one traffic light, then you can safely install two or three - additional traffic lights will not affect the traffic capacity in any way
— the Likino-Dulevo bypass is currently being built, after which the A-108 will no longer pass through the city
Which, of course, does not prevent the authorities from writing about the need to build this, and also about the fact that this is all for the benefit and for the sake of safety.
By the way, it is in the area of under- and overground pedestrian crossings that people crossing the road most often die. I foresee that there will be a particularly large number of corpses in this area - there is no desire at all to go there to cross two lanes. An attentive viewer may notice in the bottom photo that the fence has already been broken.
