L.I. Brezhnev. "Renaissance"

In Moscow, on house 26 on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, where the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Leonid Brezhnev lived, will restore the memorial plaque dedicated to him. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Moscow Department of Culture. General's board was dismantled 20 years ago and is now in one of the museums in Berlin.

One of the initiators of the restoration of the board was the State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein, a representative of the press service said. "This initiative was approved by the Commission on perpetuating the memory of outstanding events and figures of domestic history," he said.

It is assumed that the sculptors will be restored by the father and son of Rukavishnikov. "The restoration of the board will be carried out at the expense of extrabudgetary funds," the press service emphasized.

In 2004, a monument to Brezhnev was opened in Novorossiysk at the intersection of Sovetov streets and the Novorossiysk Republic. The author of the monument is the Krasnodar sculptor Nikolai Bugaev. The Novorossiysk authorities noted that Brezhnev at one time did a lot for the city.

After receiving the second title Hero of the Soviet Union in 1976, the Brazhnev bust was installed in his homeland in Dneprodzerzhinsk. After the death of Brezhnev in 1982, in accordance with the Decree of the CPSU Central Committee and the Council of Ministers of the USSR, his name was assigned to the city of Naberezhnye Chelny, the Cheremushkinsky district of Moscow and the factory district of Dneprodzerzhinsk, a number of organizations. In 1988, these renaming were canceled. Currently, Brezhnev’s name is worn by 2 villages in the Kaluga and Kursk regions, as well as 8 streets in small towns of Russia.

In Yakutsk, a monument to Joseph Stalin was opened on Victory Day. A bronze bust on a granite pedestal 2.5 meters high is installed on the territory of Almazi Anabara. At the opening of the monument there were about 100 people, mainly older. Local human rights activists sharply criticized the installation of the monument in Yakutsk, calling such a step unacceptable.

This is the third monument to Stalin in the region. The first bust was installed in 2005 in Mirny, the second - in 2009 in the village of Amga, the center of the Amginsky ulus. In recent years, monuments of Stalin have been erected in several more cities of Russia, including in Tambov and Penza.
