Medvedev asked to quickly introduce a luxury tax

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev reminded officials about the luxury tax during a cabinet meeting.

“We will proceed from the need to maintain the level of taxation that exists with certain nuances that Igor Shuvalov told us about. These are taxes on excess consumption. It’s really time to introduce them,” Medvedev said. “We must give the correct indication of what taxes our citizens and our companies will pay and, in general, proceed from a stable tax regime.

According to Medvedev, the main advantage of Russia's current tax system is that "it is quite stable."

President Putin once again spoke about the luxury tax during a direct line on April 25. Putin said that "the tax must be introduced." Then he instructed Medvedev to do this and set a deadline of November 1.
